Ecological Use of Pig Waste in Peri-Urban
Towns
Project Description
The project is located in Dafeng City,
the northern part of Jiangsu Province. The
city of Dafeng has a thriving agricultural
economy, but with the rise of new and intensified
production methods, there is also a need
for increased environmental management.
In December 2005, Varde Municipality in
cooperation with Dafeng Environmental Protection
Bureau, Shanghai Animal Husbandry, University
of South Denmark, South Jutland Agro-College,
Environmental Centre West and Ghent University
started up a project on environmental improvement.
The project has been granted financial support
from the European Union via the Asia-wide
programme Asia Pro Eco.
The project is an environmental project
focusing on agriculture. The aim is to combine
environmental concerns with agricultural
production. This will be done by involving
different groups to ensure the effect and
the sustainability of the project even after
the project finalisation. It is the aim
to create a coherent concept for environmental
farming.
Project Objective
The overall aim of the project is to improve
environment by enhancing agricultural production.
- Improvement of environmental regulation,
inspection and law enforcement
- Capacity-building to farmers on ecology,
environmental friendly farming, pollution
etc.
- Capacity-building for educational institutions
on ecology, nutrient management, waste
handling etc.
- Pilot project on ecological handling
of pig waste by implementation of pig
waste treatment plant
